June lunacy in Bellingen as Crazy Day crazily coincides with our ever crazy BCM. The ensuing publicity has pointed to the concurrent craziness to be had with the juxtaposition of events, so fingers crossed for a doozy of a day. Loads of stuff happening so…on with the shoe!
No you are not hallucinating (sorry), you do not see the latest structure reported last month as being ready for June’s BCM. Co-conspirators in this venture, Bellingen Shire Council say work will commence next week. Seems logical and OH&S savvy not to have a half completed building site in the middle of the Market’s madness.
Big thanks Marketeers, especially our coffee, tea and cake providers for graciously and generously supporting last months Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event. The Cancer Council’s volunteers raised $2,800. Thanks also to our local SES Volunteers who contributed their time & effort to set up and strike the voluminous canopy. Toby & Tim who managed that effort are raising that tent and their flag here today. So no, that large vessel you see does not mean they know something we don’t, or possibly they do? The SES is on hand to take you through their role as volunteers and the equipment and methods they employ, as well chatting with any potential new recruits.
On the subject of volunteerism Bellingen Shire Residents Assoc (BSRA) are encouraging any interested resident of Bellingen Shire interested in applying for membership to BSRA for more info see BSRA.Someone who is sure to bring interested music lovers is this month’s musical entertainment, 8 Ball Aitken (see below). Another act not to miss are the youth of Bellingen who were the hit of last month’s Renewable Energy Fair. These proactive young environmentalists build a bicycle the envy of any carbon conscious, hi-fi freak. Check it out & be amazed.
You will not be hallucinating if you witness medieval knights engaged in combat at various times through the course of the day. If you want to become a medieval re-creationist they are recruiting…Zounds and odds bodkins sire!
June’s BCM Community group are Fernmount Rural Fire Brigade so encourage any delinquent coins from patrons toward their appreciative buckets and assist them to carry on their valued community contribution. Have Crrraaazzzzzzzzzzyyyy Day Marketeers!
This month’s musical entertainment, 8 Ball Aitken (pic).
Australia’s originator and foremost exponent of “Mareeba Swamp Blues” (?). 8 Ball and his band will slide their way into your feet via your ears and heart, as he has on appearances at East Coast Blues & Roots Festival and with the media. All the local papers and radio have given space as has the newly advertised Country Music Mag and ABC’s John Nutting on his nationally aired country music interviewed this rising performer; take a moment to take look and have a listen. 8 Balls tour is to launch his third CD (available by the stage) before touring Asia, Japan & Europe. Market Stage from 10am. As a not for profit, voluntary association BSRA seeks to bring benefit to the shire through various projects and ventures, BCM is such an example. After BCM operating costs are deducted, funds raised are returned to the community via contributions from the BSRA to the Shire’s many and varied community service organisations, schools, arts, sport and cultural groups. It is from the BSRA membership base that the BCM Committee is voted for and elected. Winner!!
Last month’s winner of a free stall site was A Section’s, Ben Quigley (pic). He’s an even bigger winner this week…Congratulations to Jess & Ben who waited a respectable amount of time après’ May’s BCM (20th May in fact) before welcoming to the world the newest Q, a baby boy and #1 son, Abel. If you’d like to emulate Ben by winning a free stall observe these pages closely and follow the directions.
Second Hand Dealers
Stall holders and marketeers are required by law to hold a second-handlicence if they are selling ‘prescribed second-hand’trade in such goods on more than 6 days in the period of 12 months ending with the date the market stall is held. ‘Prescribed’ goods are detailed on the Office of Fair Trading website www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au. If you are selling such goods (2nd hand clothes aren’t counted) and you meet the above criteria be sure you are compliant with the Act or you will not be allowed to trade at BCM.
