Welcome to Bellingen Community Markets 17 February 2024

We have a wonderful market coming up this Saturday and looking forward to you joining us.

Thank goodness it will be a cooler day, with a possible light shower. As an all weather market we still go ahead in the rains. We only cancel if the grounds are unsafe and generally, we make that call early market morning. if you are unsure please check our Facebook page  before you come.  If you booked a stall or was thinking of venturing to Bellingen,  please come and fear not a little rain, Bellingen is beautiful in all weather and our markets is lots of fun..

As always we have a good mix of stalls and people, excellent music with bluesman Brad Palmer and the Bellingen-Dorrigo Junior Rugby League are our community group of the month.

Please continue reading the rest of our newsletter to get the lowdown as a stallholder and any exciting news that has come our way.

We are blessed to have such a fantastic large nature space to spread out and celebrate every month. Once you have a park (can be tricky sometimes), it truly welcomes you in to stay a while, meet with friends and family, peruse and shop at over 200 stalls, AND feel great knowing you are supporting local.

Have the best market day and see you soon.

Kind regards

MUSIC

Brad Palmer Blues Sessions

Brad Palmer Blues Sessions plays on the main stage from 10am-2.30pm.

Some of the best music can be found in places you least expect as this music lover discovered during a recent Sunday market stroll. Am I hearing the soft pickings of J.J.Cale, the vocals of Neil Young or the old blues of Tampa Red? I move closer to the source and find a small crowd in front of a lone bluesman just as he launches into a fret board frenzy that impresses.

This guy turns out to be Gold Coast local Brad Palmer a great blues player and true rhythm master. On cue Brad reaches for his harmonica and proceeds to blow the Howlin’Wolf as the gathering crowd applauds.

It is clear that Brad is a seasoned performer after years travelling the Rock n Roll road with blues festival favourites Bluesville Station writing and producing their seven top selling rock/blues albums. His solo sessions today is a funky and infectious country blues rhythm with a sweet blues harmonica. His lyrics tell tales from the surf highway to life on the band road.

“It’s great to be back on the jumbo acoustic, I’m loving it people stopping by for a listen, bopping along, the Muddy Waters blues and the Django swing is what I like” says Brad.

He is passionate about his playing, songs and sound and loves nothing but keeping the blues alive on any street corner. This is a country blues casserole, unique, original and refreshing. Good stuff Mr Palmer keep that stew simmering.

  • Always drive at walking pace and NEVER drive on football oval.
  • When entering, drive in and park close to your stall so other cars can pass.
  • Quickly unload and take your car out before returning to set up.

Please don’t park on top of resident driveways

Are you one of the stallholders who parks too close to resident’s driveways?  This makes it extremely difficult for residents to enter and exit their home, which must be very frustrating for them.  So please ensure you park at least one meter away from driveways.

ALSO park a couple of streets away so your customers can park closer.  thanks

Please HELP reduce waste

Our trial last market using 3 green bins was disastrous ! We didn’t get much food waste and people still placed their plastic lined coffee cups and dirty plates in the green bins, which we can no longer do.  This market we are considering giving each food stallholder a small compost caddy to have at their stall, so patrons can use. A big thanks to Bellingen Council for helping us try different ways to reduce our waste. We need your help too!

We can no longer place paper cups, plates, cutlery, serviettes in the green bin. These now have to go in the red bin for landfill. The new green bin rules came into play because they make commercial compost from resident’s green bin contents and the paper products were contaminating the compost.  Please click on the below link to read more https://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/your-environment/recycling-and-reuse/household-recycling-overview/fogo-information-for-households

To help reduce our waste, we also  ask stallholders take home ALL their rubbish. This includes vegie scraps for your compost and all cardboard and paper products, especially used oils. Please place in your waste outlets.
